# Domain Overview

> Authority, traffic, and backlinks for your domain and your competitors'.

Domain Overview tells you how strong a website is in search. Use it on your own domain to know where you stand, and on competitors' to know who you're realistically up against.

## Looking Up a Domain

1. Select your company from the sidebar
2. Go to **Content Engine** → **Domain Overview**
3. Enter a **Domain** — or click **Use My Domain**
4. Optionally add **Competitor domains**, comma separated
5. Review the comparison

Your own domain is marked with a **You** chip. Cached results carry a **From cache** chip.

## What the Metrics Mean

| Metric | What it tells you |
| --------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Domain Rating** | Overall authority — how much weight this site's pages carry |
| **Monthly Traffic** | Estimated visits from search |
| **Referring Domains** | How many distinct sites link to it |
| **Backlinks** | Total inbound links |

**Referring Domains** is usually the more honest signal of the two link metrics — a thousand backlinks from three sites means far less than a hundred from a hundred.

## Using It Competitively

Compare your domain against three or four real competitors. The gap in Domain Rating tells you how ambitious your keyword targets can be: if a competitor is far stronger, going after their head terms directly will be slow, and you're better served by more specific topics where authority matters less.

## Credits

Each **uncached domain** costs **25 credits**. Cached lookups are free, and **Refresh Data** re-purchases at full cost.

Adding four competitor domains at once means four lookups, so add the ones you'll actually act on.

## Tips

1. **Compare against real competitors**, not aspirational ones.
2. **Track it over time.** A single reading is a snapshot; the direction of travel is the useful part.
3. **Don't chase Domain Rating directly.** It's a symptom of good content and links, not a lever.
