# People Search

> Build an audience from filters — industry, seniority, location, company size — and import the matches into a Smart List.

[Enrichment](/find-enrich/lead-data/enrichment) answers "tell me about this person." **People Search** answers the opposite question: "who fits this description?" You describe an ideal customer with filters, preview who matches, and import as many as you want.

## Building a Search

1. Select your company from the sidebar
2. Go to **Lead Data** → **People Search**
3. Give the audience a name — for example, "Marketing Directors in SF Bay Area"
4. Open the filter groups on the left and set your criteria
5. Click **Preview** to see matching contacts
6. Choose an **Import Size** and click **Import**
7. Pick the Smart List the contacts should land in

You need at least one filter before previewing. The header shows how many contacts match and how many data credits you have.

## Filter Groups

Filters are grouped down the left side. You can combine as many as you like — each one narrows the audience.

| Group | Examples |
| ---------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Business** | Industries, Departments, Seniority, Job Titles, Exclude Job Titles, Company Names, Company Domains, Employee Count, Company Revenue, SIC Codes |
| **Location** | Where the person or company is based |
| **Contact** | What contact details a record must have |
| **Intent** | Buying-intent signals, by segment or keyword |
| **Personal**, **Financial**, **Housing**, **Family** | Consumer attributes, for B2C audiences |

### Job title matching

**Job Titles** and **Exclude Job Titles** work together, and **Job Title Match** controls how strictly titles are compared. Excluding titles is often the fastest way to clean up an audience — screening out "Assistant" or "Intern" usually does more than adding another positive filter.

### Intent filters

Intent narrows to people showing buying signals. You can pick from ready-made audience segments or supply your own keywords, and there's an **AI Generator** to suggest keywords if you're not sure where to start.

## Previewing and Importing

**Preview** shows a sample of matching contacts on the right, with the total match count in the header. Treat the count as the audience size and the sample as a spot check — if the sample looks wrong, tighten the filters before importing.

**Import Size** offers 25, 50, 75, 100, 250, 500, 1,000, 5,000, 10,000, or **All**. Start small. Importing 50 and reading them tells you more about filter quality than importing 5,000 you haven't looked at.

## Credits

People Search costs **1 credit per search, plus 1 credit per contact imported**. Previewing the same search repeatedly is inexpensive; importing is what spends credits at volume. See [Credits](/find-enrich/lead-data/lead-credits).

## Tips

1. **Name your audiences descriptively.** "Mktg Dirs — Bay Area — 50-200 employees" beats "Test 3."
2. **Filter down, not up.** Start broad, preview, then add filters until the sample looks right.
3. **Import in stages.** Run outreach against a small import first; refine the filters before pulling the rest.
4. **Watch the match count.** A count in the millions means your filters aren't doing anything yet.
