# Start Here

> The tools you use every day: your AI employees, the conversations you have with them, and the work they do on their own.

These are the items at the top of the sidebar, above the feature sections. Everything else in the platform is built on them — an AI employee with a knowledge base is what powers agents, sequences, content, and automations.

## How These Fit Together

An **AI employee** is a persona with its own instructions, model, and access to your data. You give it knowledge through the **Knowledge Base**, work with it in **Chat**, and hand it standing work in **Scheduled**. The **Dashboard** shows what all of it added up to.

The same employees show up throughout the rest of the platform — as the brain behind an [agent](/inbound/agents), the writer behind [content](/engage/content-engine), and the researcher behind [Smart List](/find-enrich/smart-lists) actions.
